Write about your topic like you care about it. Blue Blood is known for extremely high quality writing and having been a pioneer in personal voice journalism. Blue Blood always has writing opportunities for experienced writers with excellent skills and lively personal styles. BlueBlood.net specifically publishes entertainment pieces for an intelligent, sophisticated, mature but not necessarily adult audience. Subject of particular interest include music, culture, glam, gothic, gothindustrial, horror, science fiction, rpgs, kinky sex, burlesque, performance art, deathrock, psychobilly, punk, street fashion, fetish fashion, noir, clublife, scene reports, events, medievalism, computers, special effects, vampires, conventions, feminism, gender studies, media criticism, social anthropology, and related pop culture topics. Gothic.net seeks horror writer and filmmaker interviews and horror and movie reviews. Writers who successfully work with BlueBlood.net or Gothic.net may also be invited to participate in content packaging projects, including a variety of top quality and cutting edge web sites, magazines, and anthologies. Although it is helpful if prospective writers provide general bio information including information on past experience and areas of expertise, the best way to get published by Blue Blood is to submit either a completed piece or a specific pitch for a specific feature you would like to write. News features must include a minimum of one photo or graphic, although the photo or illustration may be supplied by the subject of the article e.g. a record label providing a promo photo of a band. It may be possible for Blue Blood to pair writers we have worked with in the past with photographers to cover events and fashion. Fiction:

BlueBlood.com and many Blue Blood anthologies look for erotic stories with a counterculture feel -- Gothic, industrial, techno, rave, punk, metal, dyke, mystery, gangster, hard-boiled, science fiction, cyberpunk, steampunk, vampire, werewolf, medieval etc. At the moment, our needs are for stories primarily from a male or female heterosexual viewpoint, lesbian viewpoint, or female bisexual viewpoint. Often, we can also place male homosexual and gender bender stories in anthologies. We look for work between 2,000 and 7,500 words. Most accepted fiction is shorter than 4,000 words. Death and horror elements are acceptable so long as they do not prevent the piece from being sex-positive. Characters may die but not as part of the sexuality. Kinky is great -- leathersex, bondage, vampirism etc. are all fine. Negative attitudes about sexuality are not fine. All sex must be consensual and arousing. PLEASE DO NOT SEND US STORIES PROMOTING NAZIS, RAPE, INCEST, OR THE SEXUALIZATION OF MURDER. NO SNUFF, MUTILATION, RACISM, OR HOMOPHOBIA. Humor:

BLT: Black Leather Times is Blue Blood's tiny older sibling. It is a little monster filled with humorous anecdotes of debauchery and antisocial behavior, how-to articles for pranks, quizzes to enrage, rants to enlighten and other fun for readers with attention spans shorter than an MTV video. BLT is generally free distribution at events. Write witty tales about guest lists, your most biting humor about your fave goth-industrial club, your funniest anecdotes about things people have done for scenester points. We do not pay contributors whose work is published in BLT or in any collection of BLT material in coin of the realm. Please keep in mind that anything you write for BLT may later be used in an anthology. Doing stuff for BLT is usually a very good way to get exposure to good audiences at targeted events and to get your foot in the door with us, but we are not currently accepting BLT submissions. Please query with samples if you feel your writing fits BLT's style and we will let you know next time submissions are open.

Photography:

We review portfolios for possible book cover assignments or inclusion in themed photo anthologies. If you feel you have a significant enough body of work for a whole book of your photography, please query with links to your portfolio, your publishing credits, and who you feel is the primary audience for your book. We are unlikely to publish books by photographers who have not first had work on our web sites and anthologies.

Illustrations:

We have less need for illustrators now than we used to, but we do still hire illustrators upon occasion. Your art needs to have a counterculture feel -- vampires, science fiction, fantasy, etc. (see above) The areas most open to freelancers are T-shirt and site design components. We look mostly for good, clean, easily reproduced line art. We generally buy all rights to illustrations. Please query with portfolio links. We probably won't publish a book of your thematically-appropriate webcomic, but please feel free to send us the link because we love comic strips and you never know.
